For the "Well" installation I set up a labyrinth of translucent plastic walls in the gallery space. A labyrinth differs from a maze in that there are no dead-ends, only a single path that leads meanderingly to the center. Some religious practices use "walking the labyrinth" as a meditative device. At the center of this labyrinth is a rectangular box that containing a video monitor facing upwards. An abstract video plays on the monitor. This video was created from manipulation of recorded video feedback (hooking a video camera to a monitor and pointing the camera at the monitor sets up a feedback loop). A sound recording of chanting Buddhist monks fills the space.
This installation was a meditation on Walter Benjamin's, "The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction."
