Recursions:

Unter die Haube geshaut

"Recursions" was a 'concert' of interdisciplinary collaborative time-based media, presented at The University of Iowa Museum of Art November 15, 2007. Originally called the Spatial Intersections show, I have participated in this show for 4 years and organized it for the past two years. In my role as organizer, I place greater emphasis on the interdisciplinary collaborative aspect of the show. Show participation is by invitation. Artists and musicians who are interested in taking part are paired up in collaborative teams and asked to create a new work 5 to 10 minutes in length, to be presented at the museum. This years show included sixteen artists presenting eight new artworks.

Publicity for the show included a listing in The Museum of Art's Calendar of events, a press release in The University of Iowa News Service, an interview published in the Daily Iowan (the University's daily newspaper), and a Facebook event.

While I was not planning to be a participating artist this year because of my status as adjunct faculty, I stepped in to cover the late cancellation by one of the visual artists. The decision to step in was not difficult, because I was familiar with Christopher Gainey's work.I was very interested in working with him on a project. Our piece, documented here, is titled "Unter de Haube geshaut" which loosely translates into "under the hood."
