Monument Garden was a sentient installation, contolled by the viewer's movement through the room. The monuments were constructed out of plastic shopping bags printed with an American flag and the words "God Bless America." Viewer's motion through the room activated fans that caused the monuments to inflate
Monument Garden was an ironic statement about the conflation of politics, religion, and commerce in post 9/11 America. The phallic overtones comment on an empirical foreign policy, while the monuments themselves, being constructed of flimsy materials and supported only by air point to the lack of substance and transitory nature of political image making.
