Rendition

Rendition, created in 2007, in large measure inspired the Material Reflection show. The strong iconographic presence of Rendition led me to a series of reflections upon the embodiment of meaning in form. As a conceptualist and postmodernist, I realize that the object itself has no meaning other than that which the viewer supplies. Yet, certain objects can resonate with a shared sense of meaning. Certainly, these meanings are individual, not universal. What Rendition made me realize, however, was that starting with the assumption of individual meaning, this experience could nonetheless be crafted. An iconographic object produces a strong emotional reaction. But, if you also include hints to an alternate or more nuanced reading of the object, this can lead the viewer to the generation of deep and rich experience of the object.

Rendition was originally documented here.
