Circle Walk: video

Play Video Large Small

Circle walk is an 18 minute looped ambient video (3 minutes shown here) composed for the "Free Art" one person show. Minimal and metaphoric, the original video is a single-take, single point-of-view shot of a person walking the same circular path through a pile of flour. This action slowly draws a well-defined circle on the floor. At the end of the video the walker cuts across the center of the circle, converting the drawn circle into the null symbol.

While this video pays tribute to the early 16mm film work of Bruce Naumann, even to the point of using flour as a drawing medium, the main idea of the video is the repeated action of the subject. This action becomes almost hypnotically soothing, the trace of the action becomes comfortable. The ending is intentionally abrupt and subtlely nihilistic
